Internship Program Information

Eligibility: A candidate must be an undergraduate, graduate student or have graduated from college within one year of beginning the internship.

General Information: Interns are expected to work between 20 and 40 hours a week during an 8 to 10 week internship period. Internships are offered during the summer, fall and winter/spring semesters. Interns may receive college credit if an agreement is made between Toledo Opera Association and the intern’s college or university. All interns are subject to applicable employee rules and a background check.

Responsibilities: The Intern will work with his/her assigned Coordinator. The internship will provide students with the opportunity to truly learn, create and grow in a professional environment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, research, data management, large mailings, major gift prospecting, special events, educational materials, and marketing and development.

Application Procedures: Candidates must submit a completed application form with a cover letter and resume. All applications must be submitted as a complete package. Incomplete packages will not be reviewed.

Job Descriptions

Administration Internship: Working with the Director of Toledo Opera. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, event planning, budgeting, office organization, and database management.

Required Qualifications: Undergraduate and graduate students with a strong interest in administration and arts/education. The candidate must be detailed-oriented, possess strong organizational and word processing skills. Intern should be familiar with Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, and Internet-friendly.

Terms Internship is offered: summer, fall and winter/spring semesters

Development Internship: Assists Development department with fundraising, research, event planning, file maintenance, large mailings, database management, and researching major gift prospects.

Required Qualifications: Undergraduate or graduate students with experience using Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, general computer proficiency, familiarity with fundraising databases a plus, strong organizational and communication skills. Must work some nights and weekends.

Terms Internship is offered: summer, fall and winter/spring semesters

Education Internships: Working with the Director of Education and Outreach, assists with bookings related to Student Night at the Opera, Opera on Wheels and Opera to Go. Other responsibilities include researching and writing study guides and other educational materials, working with school administrators to implement the Ombudsman Program. Interns attend student performances and assist with on-site supervision. Other duties include database entry, mailings, program statistics, and general office activities.

Required Qualifications: Undergraduate or graduate students with a strong interest in arts education. Must demonstrate professional maturity and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Attention to detail, strong writing and word processing skills, computer literacy, and familiarity or background with opera, music and education. Intern should be familiar with Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, and Internet-friendly.

Marketing/Public Relations: Provides assistance to the Marketing Department in all areas including writing, proofreading, advertising sales, development and implementation of print advertising campaigns including placement of media; budgeting, sales reporting and performance statistics, daily liaison to advertising agencies, graphic designers, telemarketing vendors and media representatives regarding the coordination of all marketing projects.

Required Qualifications: Undergraduate or graduate students with a strong interest in Marketing/Public Relations. Must demonstrate professional maturity and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Attention to detail, strong writing and word processing skills, computer literacy, and familiarity or background with opera, music and education. Intern should be familiar with Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, and Internet-friendly.
