Opera is a rich, multimedia experience. Toledo Opera's learning programs encourage young people and adults to actively participate in this exciting art form.
Toledo Opera has two programs which introduce students to the thrilling experience of live opera. Opera on Wheels is a touring production that, over two months in the spring of each year, goes to over sixty elementary schools in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. Student Night at the Opera invites middle and high school students, accompanied by teachers and/or parents, to come to the final dress rehearsal of the season’s main stage productions for the nominal fee of $5 a ticket. A third program, Opera Camp, provides students, aged 9-22 years, with a two-week “hands-on” experience of the many aspects of opera, from vocal preparation to acting, dance and costume/scene design.
Programs which provide insight into a particular opera, a composer or some aspect of the world of opera enhance and deepen the opera-going experience for both first-time audience members and those who are already confirmed opera lovers. Learn more about opera by coming to the opera a little early for a Pre-Opera Talk one hour prior to the performance or by attending an “Opera Extra” presentation by a key player (on stage or behind the scenes) in each of the season’s productions.
