Toledo, OH – Toledo Opera returns to the Valentine Theatre for its final production of the 2007-2008 season, Pietro Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana. In this opera, betrayal, jealousy and revenge are the perfect partners for an evening of irresistible theater. Cavalleria Rusticana is set in a Sicilian village. It reflects the colorful world of traditional Italian peasants going about their daily lives – until jealousy and revenge flare into tragedy.

This melodramatic tale of rustic chivalry follows the fickle and passionate love triangle between Turiddu, who loves Lola; Santuzza, who loves Turiddu, the father of her child; and Alfio, the all-too-trusting husband of Lola. Mascagni's music takes us through the emotional heights and depths of this tragic love story.

You will hear music in Cavalleria Rusticana that is immediately recognizable, including the scrumptious Intermezzo, as well as several of its arias which have been featured in movies such as The Godfather: Part Three and Raging Bull. It's a night of unforgettable music!
