Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro Launches
Toledo
Opera’s 2005-2006
Season
Love’s hilarious
and heart-rending intrigues will come alive on October 1, 7
and 9 at the Valentine Theatre in downtown Toledo when Toledo Opera presents
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s
operatic masterpiece The Marriage of Figaro.
Mozart’s
intention to write an opera that was “really funny throughout” is
achieved as he adroitly demonstrates the fine line all lovers
walk between comedy and tragedy. Whether
married, unfaithful, affianced or in the throes of adolescent
love, all the opera’s lovers eventually
come face-to-face with their shared humanity in a story rife
with glorious misadventure.
From
the Countess’ lament about her husband’s infidelities,
to Figaro’s menacing challenge to the Count and Susannah’s
wickedly enticing invitation, all the opera’s arias will
convince you that Mozart deserves the title “Musical Genius.”
The
opera will be sung in Italian with English subtitles. The
Valentine Theatre is wheel-chair accessible with parking across
the street at a nominal fee.
