Spend Your Valentine's Weekend with Toledo Opera

Toledo Opera presents “The Greatest Wagner Concert Ever” on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at 7:30 pm as part of Opera Gala 2006.

Wagner! The name conjures a world of gods and valkyries – cataclysmic clashes of supermen and the mortals that challenge their awesome power – music of heroes and schemers for lovers and dreamers – soaring arias, grand choruses, brilliant orchestration – music of terrifying emotional impact.

You’ve heard Richard Wagner’s music on TV and in the movies accompanying  everything from the awesome helicopters in Apocalypse Now to Bugs Bunny’s famous “I killed the wabbit!” Now hear Wagner’s original version of “Here Comes the Bride” and the awesome Ride of the Valkyries.

Wagner’s music ranges from wild to somber, from powerful to graceful – always full of passion, grief, humor and tenderness. Opera Gala 2006 will be a fabulous night out, a perfect date concert, and – with its stirring mixture of Wagner’s most tumultuous and romantic music – an elegant way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

The highly acclaimed young soprano Erin Wood, a frequent guest at Lyric Opera of Chicago and other major companies, will be featured along with the Toledo Opera Chorus and the University of Toledo Concert Chorale, accompanied by the full Toledo Symphony Orchestra conducted by Grammy Award-winning maestro Thomas Conlin.

For an additional $85 a ticket, concertgoers can also attend Toledo Opera’s popular, annual Gala Celebration benefit party at the Toledo Club. After a delicious, pre-concert sit-down dinner, guests will be transported via bus caravan to the Peristyle for the concert and then returned to the Toledo Club for dessert and dancing!

Spend your Valentine’s weekend with the Opera at Opera Gala and Gala Celebration 2006! For tickets to both, call Toledo Opera at 419-255-SING (7464) or visit www.toledoopera.org.
