Come play in style in the spirit of an Italian
street festival June 9-10, 2006, from 6-11 p.m. at The Town Center
at Levis Commons. See the legendary Jefferson Starship perform
Friday, June 9, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night’s lineup includes
the Motor City Rhythm & Blues Pioneers, Zydeco Superstar C.J.
Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band, and local R&B great
Roman Griswold.
“Carnevale Nights promises two exciting evenings of incredible food and
spirits, live entertainment, gaming and fun – all for the greater purpose
of benefiting Toledo Opera’s education and outreach programs,” describes
Toledo Opera General Director Renay Conlin.
Get ready to rock with the renowned Jefferson
Starship on Friday night, June 9, starting at 7:30
p.m. This legendary group now features a stellar cast of old and
new players, including, Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship founder
Paul Kantner, Country Joe McDonald from Country Joe and the Fish,
Quicksilver co-founder David Freiberg, original Grateful Dead pianist
Tom Constanten, The Tubes co-founder Prairie Prince and Jefferson
Starship’s Slick Aguilar, Chris Smith, Linda Imperial
and Diana Mangano. Diana has sung Grace Slick’s repertoire for the
past 13 years. Grace retired from touring in 1989.
Zydeco Superstar C.J. Chenier and
The Red Hot Louisiana Band bring their infectious, boisterous music
to fans in Northwest Ohio, on Saturday, June 10, at 9 p.m. With
a solo career dating back to 1987 and five previous albums under
his belt, C.J. Chenier is widely and wildly regarded as one of
the genre’s best singers, musicians and live performers. Living
Blues magazine named him “the best living Zydeco singer
and accordionist,” and Billboard called
him “the heir to the Zydeco throne.”
Motor City Rhythm & Blues Pioneers also
perform Saturday night, June 10, at 8 p.m. This vintage group
began performing before Motown and continues to play to rave
reviews today. The Pioneers consist of Joe Weaver, Stanley Mitchell
and Kenny Martin. Weaver is best known for his hit 'Baby I Love
You So' on Detroit's Fortune label.
He was also house pianist and bandleader at Fortune, where he backed
Nolan Strong, Andre Williams, The Five Dollars, The Royal Jokers
and many others.
Stanley Mitchell had a Top 5 hit with 'Four O'Clock in the Morning'
for the legendary Chess label in Chicago. Kenny Martin
scored big with 'I'm Sorry' for the Federal label down
in Cincinnati and then went on to record for Big Top in
New York. He was the first artist to ever record a tune written
by Barry Gordy.
Local R&B great Roman Griswold will
start off Saturday’s lineup performing at 7 p.m., along with Big Blues
Bob Michaels accompanied by Voodoo Libido. Griswold
has dominated the Toledo area blues scene for years and continues to
delight audiences. Live entertainment for Carnevale Nights is being
arranged by Blue Suits productions.
Let the Good Times Roll! In addition
to live entertainment, Carnevale Nights features great food and
gaming activities including, Black Jack, Texas Hold ‘em
and slot machines. There’s a raffle that guests may enter
to win big-ticket prizes, including a trip to Las Vegas, courtesy
of AAA Northwest Ohio. The event includes the eclectic cuisine
of Levis Commons’ restaurants and eateries, including Biaggi’s;
Bistro Wasabi; Max and Erma’s; Blue Pacific Grill; Johnny
Rocket’s;
Maggie Moo’s Ice Cream and Treatery; Schakolad Chocolate
Factory; Showcase Cinema popcorn; and Starbucks. A selection of
fine wines and specialty beers will be available as well.
Carnevale Nights takes place at The
Town Center at Levis Commons located at the corner
of I-475 and Rt. 25 in Perrysburg, Ohio. Event hours are from 6
to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission tickets are $15 and are
