Volunteers play an increasingly important role at Toledo Opera. Our volunteer corps is comprised of a group of people with extremely varied backgrounds who come together to show their support for Toledo Opera and enjoy good company. The volunteers are an integral part of the day-to-day activities here at Toledo Opera. Volunteer duties range from providing office and clerical support, hospitality and transportation for guest artists, assisting at fundraising events, staffing information tables at performances, and many other activities. Whatever your skills and availability, we can match your schedule to our needs. Volunteers are honored annually with a reception and invitation to a dress rehearsal performance.

Below is a list of volunteer opportunities at Toledo Opera along with a short description.  For additional information regarding volunteering at Toledo Opera, please contact Rachael Cammarn at rcammarn@toledoopera.org or 419-255-7464.

Office Volunteer: An office volunteer will assist with office tasks at the Toledo Opera offices. This may include answering the phones, calling patrons, assisting with mailings, and/or other assistance in the office.  Office hours are from Monday through Friday from 9AM to 5PM.

Material Distribution: Toledo Opera sometimes distributes marketing materials throughout the Toledo area. These materials include postcards, rack cards, and posters advertising upcoming productions and events. As a material distribution volunteer, you will pick up materials that will then be distributed in specific areas around the Greater Toledo area. We are looking for people from different parts of the Northwest Ohio region to help distribute to all parts of our community. Must have access to a vehicle.

Pick up/Drop off Artists: Before rehearsals begin for Toledo Opera productions, all of the artists that are coming from out of town need someone to pick them up from either Toledo’s airport or from Detroit’s airport. As a volunteer, your task will be to pick up and/or drop off artists at the airport. Must have access to a vehicle.

Artist Housing: During rehearsals and performances of Toledo Opera productions, artist housing is provided to all artists from out of town. In order to avoid paying for a hotel room, we look for artist housing with volunteers who are able to house an artist for a couple weeks.

Performance Volunteers: During performances, volunteers are needed to work in the lobby to make sure any questions regarding Toledo Opera are answered.  This may include working a table during a performance and answering any questions about upcoming performances or working in will-call and assisting with the box office.

Stage Door Person: The stage door person would work the stage door during rehearsals and performances at the Valentine Theatre. As a stage door person, you will control who enters the Valentine Theatre to make sure that only the correct people are entering. Production

Green Room Volunteer: As a green room volunteer, you will assist with providing snacks and beverages during productions in the green room of the Valentine Theatre.

Children’s Chorus Volunteer: When needed, the children’s chorus volunteer will assist with the children’s chorus director and help with tasks as needed.

Education/Outreach Volunteer: The education and outreach volunteer will assist with anything related to Toledo Opera’s education and outreach programs. This may include assistance with Opera On Wheels, Student Night at the Opera, and other events as they occur.

Other Tasks As Needed: You will be emailed as tasks arise, including miscellaneous or emergency tasks needed for Toledo Opera.
