Toledo Opera is seeking the following performers to serve as Resident Artists for the 2023-2024 season: soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, bass/baritone, and pianist.
Toledo Opera will host its virtual Tuesday on Tuesday, October 4 at 5:30 p.m. This panel offers a fresh perspective on Suor Angelica & Cavalleria Rusticana, and explores thematic connections to contemporary life in Toledo.
Toledo Opera will present a fall double bill of Puccini’s Suor Angelica & Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana on Friday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 16 at 2 p.m. at the Valentine Theatre, 400 North Superior, Toledo, Ohio. Both of these pieces explore the hardship and social constructs placed on women who do not conform to the rules of society and religion in their everyday lives.
Wipfli served as the soprano Resident Artist in both the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 seasons. During her time as a Resident Artist, Wipfli was primarily featured in Opera on Wheels – Toledo Opera’s flagship educational program bringing live opera to over 60 elementary schools in the northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan regions. In her capacity as Resident Artist, Wipfli also performed the role of Inez in Il Trovatore opposite Leah Crocetto; as chorus in La Traviata; was featured in both the 2021 and 2022 Toledo Opera Galas; and was featured in Opera Outdoors along with various other concerts and events. At the invitation of Suzanne Rorick, she returned to the company to begin her new role as Education & Development Coordinator.
Toledo Opera resident artists Sara Mortensen (soprano), Imara Miles (mezzo soprano), Brendan J. Boyle (tenor), Matthew Payne (baritone), and Steven Naylor (pianist) have arrived in Toledo for the 2022-2023 season.
Opera Outdoors returns this September with weekly performances at the Toledo Botanical Garden and the Toledo Farmers’ Market. The first performance will take place at the Toledo Botanical Garden on Wednesday, September 7 at 6:00 p.m.
Toledo Opera is seeking 18 men and 1 young boy approximately 5 years of age as supernumerary actors for Suor Angelica/Cavalleria Rusticana (Sept./Oct. 2022 commitment). Suor Angelica/Cavalleria Rusticana will take place on Friday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the Valentine Theatre, 400 North Superior, Toledo, Ohio.
Toledo Opera and TolHouse have partnered to create a specialty cocktail in promotion of Toledo Opera’s upcoming performance of Blue on Friday, August 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, August 28 at 2:00 p.m. at The Valentine Theatre, 400 North Superior, Toledo, Ohio.
Toledo Opera, The African American Police League, and the Toledo Police Museum present a reception on Thursday, August 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the Toledo Police Museum, 2201 Kenwood Blvd, Toledo, Ohio 43606 (located in Ottawa Park), in promotion of Toledo Opera’s upcoming production of Blue, which chronicles the story of a modern-day black family whose father is a police officer. This event is made possible by the MacArthur Safety and Justice Challenge Grant.
Toledo Opera has partnered with Toledo Lucas County Public Library and media partner WGTE public media to present a full day of free events in anticipation of Toledo Opera’s upcoming production of Blue on Thursday, August 18 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Mott Branch Library located at 1085 Dorr Street, Toledo, Ohio 43607.
