Toledo Opera will host its virtual Tuesday on Tuesday, August 16 at 6:00 p.m. This panel offers a fresh perspective on Blue, and explores thematic connections to contemporary life in Toledo. This event will also include a screening of the documentary film Blue: Stories from Toledo, Toledo Opera and Madhouse Creative collaborated on a 20-minute documentary film featuring interviews with Toledoans and opera experts. This event is presented with support from Ohio Humanities.
Applications are now open for the Toledo Opera Community Engagement Advisory Committee. The committee is composed of local leaders and influencers with extensive expertise and robust personal and professional networks that will assist in guiding programming, developing partnerships, and outreach strategy.
Toledo Opera will present the Tony Award®–winning composer Jeanine Tesori and NAACP Theatre Award–winning librettist Tazewell Thompson’s new opera Blue on Friday, August 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, August 28 at 2 p.m. at the Valentine Theatre, 400 North Superior, Toledo, Ohio. Influenced by gospel music and using vivid flashbacks, Blue places timely issues at the forefront of modern opera and invites audiences to the emotional epicenter of their impact. Toledo Opera will also host a free Pre-Opera Talk one hour before each show in the Grand Lobby of the Valentine Theatre. Local scholars provide historical context and insight and are available to take questions after the talk.
Toledo Opera is now accepting applications for first-time opera attendees to become guest critics in its third round of its View Then Voice focus group. These groups are designed to engage with new audiences and gain insights that will help build and diversify the next generation of opera-goers in Toledo. Each selected participant will receive two complimentary tickets; one for them and a guest to attend the final dress rehearsal of Toledo Opera’s upcoming performance of Blue.

To contextualize the story of Blue within the lived experiences of Toledoans, Toledo Opera and Madhouse Creative collaborated on a 22-minute documentary film featuring interviews with Toledoans and opera experts.
Toledo Opera is holding auditions for small roles and chorus positions for Suor Angelica/Cavalleria Rusticana (Sept./Oct. 2022 commitment), The Merry Widow (Jan./Feb. 2023 commitment), and a concert of opera choruses and arias, Celebrazione del Coro (Mar./Apr. 2023 commitment) on June 3 – 5, 2022.
Opera Outdoors Returns For Its Fourth Series
Toledo, OH—Opera Outdoors returns this May with weekly performances at the Toledo Botanical Garden and the Toledo Farmers’ Market. The first performance will take place at the Toledo Botanical Garden on Wednesday, May 4 at 6:00 p.m.
Toledo Opera announces plans to return to the Valentine Theatre for 2022-2023 performance season. Beginning in October, the season will feature three main-stage productions.
The 64th season will begin with operatic drama and end with two lighthearted celebratory pieces. It is a chance for Toledo Opera to welcome back the loyal opera audience and the opportunity to welcome in new audiences. Opening on October 14 with a double-bill of Suor Angelica and Cavalleria Rusticana, the season will also feature The Merry Widow. The season will conclude with Celebrazione del Coro – a celebration of the Toledo Opera Chorus.
