Toledo Opera is holding a Cinderella Coloring Contest in three age divisions. The winner of each division will receive complimentary tickets for a family of four to Cinderella on either Friday, October 6, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. or Sunday, October 8, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Valentine Theatre, 400 North Superior, Toledo, Ohio. The deadline to register and submit coloring pages is Friday, September 22, 2023.

The coloring contest features three age divisions: ages 5 – 11, ages 11 – 16, and ages 17 – up. Registration and a downloadable coloring page are available at toledoopera.org/beyond-the-stage/cinderella-coloring-contest/. The hand-drawn illustration features Toledo Opera Cinderella stars Sarah Coit and David Walton adorned in period attire, with patterns and furnishings showcasing what would have been seen in real life. The illustration is courtesy of Danielle Di Stefano, soprano, opera historian, music education, author, and award-winning opera advocate in the WNY/Ontario region and throughout the United States. All contestants must register and submit their coloring page to rcammarn@toledoopera.org.

“We are so lucky to have partnered with Danielle Di Stefano in the commissioning of this beautiful illustration,” shared Toledo Opera Director of Marketing & Communication Rachael Cammarn. “We were introduced to her work at the Opera America conference this past spring, where we were gifted her coloring book Manga and Mozart – in which a semi-realistic Manga (Japanese drawing style) meets Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, and more in an entertaining, unique, and educational book of beloved characters and scenes from some of the most famous operas ever written. Our commissioned illustration not only features our stars, but also the aesthetic of our upcoming production of Cinderella!”

More about Cinderella: Never before seen by Toledo Opera audiences, the beloved tale of Cinderella meets operatic delight in this Rossini hit. Based on the iconic children’s story, Angelina (Cinderella) sweeps the floors while her farcical stepsisters try on dresses, vying for the extremely eligible Prince Ramiro’s hand in marriage. With a twist of fate, Angelina meets Prince Ramiro. Charmed by her goodness, he knows he has found his soulmate. Amid household chaos, squabbling family members, and mistaken identities, Angelina’s honesty and forthrightness bring this story to its rightful and hilarious conclusion. Rossini’s charming take on the classic Cinderella story will delight audiences of all ages in this family-friendly opera. Cinderella stars mezzo-soprano Sarah Coit as Angelina, tenor David Walton as Prince Ramiro, and BGSU voice professor Keith Phares as Count Dandini.  Michelle Rofrano conducts Rossini’s sparkling score as director Marc Verzatt brings this enchanting story to life. Sung in Italian with English supertitles.
