The opera's general director says Toledo is one of the few cities in the state with its own opera company.

The Toledo Opera held a rehearsal session at WGTE Studios for their upcoming season on Sunday. The opera will be entering their 66th season this year, with their first event being held next weekend. Toledo Opera General Director James Norman says the opera is an important staple in the Toledo community which shows the city’s dedication to the arts.

He says he is glad the organization has withstood the test of time. "I think the arts are very important in our society, and for Toledo, for the size of our city, it's lucky to have an opera company because not too many in Ohio do,” said Norman. “We're only one of a very few handful of opera companies still in existence in this state. So, Toledo's very lucky that we're still around and we're hoping for another 66 years."

The Toledo Opera will be performing Tosca, Puccini’s tragic story of passion and jealousy, at the Valentine Theatre this Friday at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m.
