The Toledo Opera announced its 67th season Monday with two productions in 2025 and 2026.
The season will feature Georges Bizet's "Carmen" and Gaetano Donizetti's "The Elixir of Love".
"Carmen" will be performed on Oct. 10 and 12 at the Valentine Theatre. The well-known production, often recognized by its iconic "Habanera" piece, will be performed in its original French with English captions. It follows a love triangle between its namesake, Carmen; a soldier, Don Jose; and a bullfighter, Escamillo.
“We are thrilled to announce a season filled with passion, romance, and timeless music,” Toledo Opera general director James M. Norman said in a press release. “As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Carmen, we honor Bizet’s masterpiece with a production that highlights its enduring drama and fiery spirit."
The second and final main-stage production of the season will be "The Elixir of Love," which takes the stage at the Valentine Theatre on Feb. 13 and 15 in 2026. This production, sung in Italian with English captions, follows Nemorino who, in his quest to win the heart of a woman, drinks a love potion. Hijinks ensue.
"...With Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love, a heartwarming tale of love and laughter, this season promises to captivate both longtime opera lovers and new audiences alike," said Norman. "We invite the community to join us for a season of unforgettable performances that showcase the power and beauty of opera.”
