A LOVELY outdoor soiree, Opera Uncorked, on June 12 was at the Perrysburg home of John and Mary Fedderke. In the evening breeze guests mingled as they sipped wine donated by Opera artistic director Kevin Bylsma and nibbled delectable edibles.
The night was enchanting amid the lush gardens as resident Toledo Opera artist Sarah Rachel Bacani sang, accompanied by Bylsma on the piano set on the band stand where Mr. Fedderke can occasionally be heard playing his sax. It was so beautiful that a few birds chirped to the tunes. It was a small taste of live opera and Mrs. Fedderke sees all kinds of music including Opera coming together — it can connect across differences.
James Norman, Toledo Opera general director, gave an overview of the Opera's upcoming performances and the need for support from the community.
He also gave a shout to major donors like Luci Gorski, who was posthumously honored with the Partners in Excellence Award by Opera Volunteers International for her generosity and devotion.
Toledo Opera’s 67th Season: Passion, Potion, and the Pursuit of Love, promises drama with love, fate, and deception in two iconic productions: Passion ignites and tensions flare in Bizet’s Carmen where Carmen captivates and ensnares those around her — leading to a tragic collision of love and jealousy. Romance and comedy take center stage in Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love. Lovesick Nemorino believes a magic potion is the key to winning Adina’s heart — but his quest for love leads to a series of hilarious misadventures.
Norman invited guests to give generously to help ensure Toledo Opera remains a vital force in our community. Increase your annual gift, leave a legacy, and support the opera by attending the productions and perhaps bring someone who has not experienced opera before.
In addition to the stage performances, the Toledo Opera offers community outreach initiatives, Opera on Wheels in classrooms and Opera ‘Round Town pop-up concert series, according to Leah Whitaker, development officer. One can also hire a resident artist to perform at their own party, too.
Among the guests at the soiree were Donna Bogan, Pam and Bill Davis, Mike Hebert and Dave Foley, Kate and Ben French, Glenn and Mary Richter, and Rick and Denise Arnos.
