Toledo Opera will bring two beloved classics to the Valentine Theatre for its 2026-2027 season.

Giuseppe Verdi's Aida and Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore were selected as the opera's two mainstage productions for its 68th season.

“What a treat for Toledo audiences to experience the grandness of Aida and the hilarity of H.M.S. Pinafore in the same season!" Toledo Opera artistic director, Kevin Bylsma, said in the press release. "Yet again, Toledo Opera has assembled extraordinary casts, which, with our brilliant chorus, will bring these memorable characters and scenes to life. This is a season not to miss!”

Aida will be performed by the Toledo Opera for the first time in over a decade when it takes the stage on Oct. 16 and 18, 2026. The Toledo Opera described Verdi's Aida as a "sweeping romance" about an Ethiopian princess held captive in Ancient Egypt. It is a narrative of "desire, sacrifice, and destiny," according to a press release, as the princess navigates romance and devotion to her homeland.

The production will be sung in Italian with English captions.

Then, in 2027, Gilbert and Sullivan's nautical comedy, H.M.S. Pinafore, will take the stage at the Toledo Opera for the first time in four decades. Well-known for its patter songs and humor, the show will be performed on Feb. 19 and 21 in 2027. It will also be the opera's first Gilbert and Sullivan operetta in over 20 years. The show follows a ship captain's daughter who falls in love with a sailor, despite her father's wishes.

Tickets will go on sale on the Toledo Opera's website beginning March 2.
