Toledo Opera will host “America 250 Week,” a series of community events scheduled May 2-9 at multiple locations across the Toledo region.
The weeklong series, sponsored by The Wolfe Family Foundation and the Lucas County commissioners, will include a volunteer service project, a free public concert and the organization’s annual fundraising gala.
Events begin May 2 with “Sing While You Work: Day of Service” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Forest Cemetery. Volunteers and veteran organizations will clean and prepare veterans’ graves ahead of Memorial Day. Lunch will be provided, and registration is required through Toledo Opera’s website.
On May 5, Toledo Opera will present the America 250 Veterans Concert at Conn Weissenberger American Legion Post 587. A food truck will begin service at 5:30 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. concert featuring Toledo Opera Resident Artists performing patriotic selections. The event is free and open to the public, though advance registration is required. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
The week concludes May 9 with Opera Gala Route 250 at the Millbury Classic Cars & Trucks Museum. VIP admission begins at 6 p.m., with general admission at 6:30 p.m. The gala will include live performances, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and a paddle raise. Attendees will also be able to view the museum’s collection of classic and custom vehicles.
Tickets for the gala include a $300 VIP option with a private reception, meet-and-greet with museum owners and open bar access, and a $200 general admission option. Cocktail attire is requested.
Toledo Opera General Director James M. Norman said the week is intended to bring the community together through music and service.
“We are proud to celebrate America 250 with a week of meaningful and inspiring events,” Norman said. “From a community day of service to a moving veterans’ concert, culminating in a festive fundraising gala, these moments honor our shared music history while bringing our community together in service, reflection and celebration.”
Development Officer Leah Whitaker said the organization’s connection with the veteran community grew following its 2025 production of South Pacific and continues to expand through partnerships and outreach.
Lucas County Commissioners President Lisa A. Sobecki said the events highlight the role of arts and service in the community.
“Combining the joy and beauty of music with community service is an excellent way to celebrate America 250 and instill pride in Lucas County’s contributions to the vibrancy of our nation,” Sobecki said.
