Toledo Opera to hold chorus auditions for ‘Aida’ and ‘HMS Pinafore’

Toledo Opera is holding auditions for chorus positions – soprano, alto, tenor, and bass – for the 2026-27 season. The season will feature Verdi’s “Aida,” an August to October commitment, and Gilbert & Sullivan’s “H.M.S. Pinafore,” a November to February commitment. All past, current, and perspective choristers should plan to audition.

Auditions are scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 30, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., and on Sunday, May 31, between 3 and 6 p.m. Those interested in auditioning should prepare one memorized selection, in Italian or English (if possible), which best demonstrate their vocal range and abilities. A pianist will be provided. Those auditioning should plan to bring a current resume, a headshot, and printed sheet music. Toledo Opera is seeking all voice types for a SATB chorus.

• Valentine Theatre
• Mixed voices: soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, bass
• Music rehearsals begin on July 19 from 5 – 7 p.m., and run weekly on Sundays through Sept. 27. Staging rehearsals will begin Sept. 28 and typically run Monday through Friday in the evenings and on Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoons/evenings.

“H.M.S. Pinafore” by Arthur Sullivan & W.S. Gilbert

• Feb. 19 & 21, 2027
• Valentine Theatre
• Mixed voices: soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, bass
• Music rehearsals begin on Nov. 22, from 5 – 7 p.m., and run weekly on Sundays. There will be a break for the holidays from Dec. 13 until Jan. 10. Music rehearsals will conclude on Jan. 31, and staging rehearsals will begin on Feb. 1. Staging rehearsals typically run Monday through Friday in the evenings and on Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoons/evenings.
